The Great Black Divide

Being an African American woman comes with its disadvantages, obviously. When I was younger my mother use to always say, ” you’ve got 2 strikes against you already.  You are Black and You are a woman.  You have to work 2 times harder than black men, 5 times harder than white women and 10 times harder than the white man to make it in this world”. Growing up I found this to be true because of things I saw not necessarily experienced myself.  I wasn’t at all conscious growing u. I attended very diverse catholic schools. The all girl catholic college I went to was predominantly white but there were a sprinkle of black girls and “others”. I can honestly say that I really grew up with a false sense of reality. Although my mom was aware that being black meant that there were many difficulties and tribulations to overcome she wasn’t into consciousness and just the general enlightenment of blacks in America. The only things I really knew about myself and what it meant to be black was that I was born with 2 strikes and the things that were taught to me in school and well you know how that goes. The school systems really don’t educate students on the true and full history of slavery and the oppression of minorities, specifically blacks in this country. I feel like every student should be required to take a course on racism in America. Systematic White Supremacy 101.  I also think all students should be required to read The Art of War. I call that the “White man’s bible”. A lot of us don’t realize that even though the shackles have been taken off of our wrist and ankles, and we have the right to vote, shit, eat and sleep like most of America that we are still not free Black people. Being “FREE” is a huge misconception. War is no longer a physical feat but a mental and psychological one. The easiest way to divide and conquer is to mentally defeat the opposition. Even the blacks who were physically enslaved can relate to this. Tactics such as turning the darker hued slaves against the lighter hued slaves, Castrating the males in front of the women, slavemasters having sex with enslaved women in front of the men, Giving some slaves certain incentives that they didn’t give others, etc were all used as a ways to take over the minds of the enslaved. Now let’s fast forward to today, 2015. Are many of these things still going on today??? I would say definitely yes! With the media’s standard of beauty being White, blonde hair, blue eyes or for the black community the light skin, wavy, long haired beauty, along with the bashing of darker skin, I believe that it would be safe to say that psychologically this has had a huge effect on blacks in America. Add economics, social barriers along with other glass ceilings and waaaaalllaaaa the perfect remedy for disaster within broken people.

Interracial Dating isn’t something new. There have been interracial couples and families for hundreds of years now. Something that I have noticed though is this new movement of black men who not only date and marry interracially and exclusively but concurrently viciously attack and bash black women. Honestly growing up I had never heard a black man speak so ill of black women until the age of youtube came along. One day while browsing the video streaming site I came across a man by the name of Tommy Sotomayor, a self proclaimed hater of black women. I was completely taken back by his comments and immediately went on a tirade in the comment section condeeming him on his callous and down right obnoxious rhetoric toward black women. I just could not wrap my mind around how he could be so vile when it came to the women of his own race. However, soon after I found out that he wasn’t the only one. There were thousands of black men who were also on the hating black women bandwagon. Now grant it, everyone has had their share of ups and downs when it comes to being in relationships which have left many people heartless and damaged and if I wanted to generalize how black men are as a whole based off of the relationships I’ve had with them, I would have oddles of things to say and could be all day.  I’m sure any race/culture/group of people no matter whether you’re black, white, chinese, mexican, hindu, jew, blue or purple could sit down and complain about the opposite sex of that specific group. So why does it seem as though there is a movement solely based around bashing and belittling black women? I sometimes comb the internet in search of the answers to my questions but I always seem to get the typical hate filled responses. Nothing with any true validity which solidifies the theories that certain behaviors are exclusive to black women. I’ve even heard things like, ” I only date white women because all black women look like men,” or ” I only date white women because all black women are fat and disgusting”. Then the defense to that becomes, well if this isn’t you shouldn’t be offended. Look, I don’t care who you date or who you choose to have sex with or love but don’t bash me to make yourself feel better about what you are doing and viciously verbally attacking any black sister of mine for no reason other than because she is black means I get offended because you are bashing me as well. I have a we are in this together mentality when it comes to my people, especially black women. If these men have so called found the solution to their happiness is it fair for them to constantly promote this visceral, disgusting, hatred and abhorrence against a group of people who of which they claim they don’t want to have anything to do with?

On the other hand you have these black women who have a pink pickle push going on, campaigning against black men, specifically the ones who hate black women. They just have to announce to the world how it’s so great that they have found true love in the opposite race and why you should do it too. Then you have the black women who have adopted the men’s model of fear mongering and bashing black men. Displaying their hatred for black men for the world to see. Why is this going on?? Is this the product of the indoctrinated self-hate that we have been taught for the past 500 years?  I’m pretty sure this divide has a lot to do with the bigger picture and no one is even paying attention to it.  The whole grand scheme of things is to keep everyone blinded by miniscule shit and at each others necks to keep attention away from what is truely going on. Unity is a powerful tool when used right and the powers that be are aware of this..
